How to group courses together so that they can be assigned to lots of people in one go, is covered in this guide: How to group courses into learning profiles.
But what if you have one or two people that just don’t fit any particular mould? It’s a rare occurrence, but a nightmare when it does! Before we go into how to go about creating a flexible profile, it’s worth mentioning that there are other features on the platform that you can use to make sure that all learners have the exact courses they need.
And these are your location and individual attributes. These are basically descriptions that you can add, that tell the system more information about a particular learner or location. For example, a location attribute could be ‘alcohol course’ for one specific store that sells alcohol, whereas the other stores may not. The stores that don’t sell alcohol don’t really need to be completing this course, so you can add a location attribute to the store that does sell alcohol, and only that store will be assigned the alcohol specific course.
There will be the rare occasions where a flexible profile might be useful, however, so let’s get back to them.
Your first step is to go into the Manage courses menu, and pick Group courses into learning profiles:
… which looks like this:
Simply select the Assign Flexible Profiles button at the bottom of the list, and then Search for a learner by name and press View:
Search for courses by name to add, adjust how many courses you can see on one page (and use the Next button to move between pages) and press Save when you’re all done:
If you see this message at the top of the screen:
Then you must first finish assigning courses to this learner, but will then have to go to Manage learner details to complete the task.
Search for the same person you’ve just set the flexible profile for, and select Edit:
Show the Learner Details Editor and scroll down to the Flexible Profile tick box, tick it, and then Submit:
The next guide in this section is ‘Why your changes to a learner’s details aren’t saving'.
